PONDERING - Easy Traditions |
|
|
Oh yes, traditions. Those little rituals passed down from generation to generation that helps shape your family by creating a sense of unity, warmth and closeness.
Screech .. okay fine maybe for the Waltons it sounded like that, but for our family and our busy busy lifestyle, traditions are more off the cuff, spur of the moment, straight forward type of fun. So don’t feel badly if you don’t come to the suburbs armed with an arsenal of family traditions passed on from your great ancestors of yester year.
Go ahead, create them yourself. Somebody has to, so why not let it be you? They don’t have to be extravagant or require a lot of planning, they can be as simple as reading to your child every night in the same comfy chair, having a movie and pizza night once a month on Friday or discussing things you are grateful for around the dinner table each evening.
We all have very busy lifestyles, and adding a small tradition here or there can make all the difference to keeping the happy in your busy life.
My two latest two favorites are:
Friday Favorites; The Three “D’s”. Choose a Friday each month whereby you will make the one member of your family the designated “Friday favorite”. That person then gets to choose at the top of the week what dinner, dessert and the dress code for dinner that Friday evening. My Friday were going to have paella, pumpkin pie and dress in purple.
Weekend mornings in bed. Once a month choose a morning on the weekend to invite everyone INSIDE. Inside your covers that is. Invite them to pile into bed with you and hubby for some good ol’ fashioned snuggle time. You don’t need to spend hours laying around as we know how busy busy anxious we can all get to start our days, but 20, 30 how about 45 minutes spent just relaxing. Promise that time spent connecting both physically and emotionally can be a great way to kick off or end a weekend.
